Marie according to Victor : Marie has a lively spirit and is a whole and honest person, and does not do things by halves! She is adventurous and reasonable at the same time, and also peaceful, settled and meditative… which is quite obvious for a psychologist! She enjoys being in contact with nature and authentic people. And last but not least… she is a wonderful cook!
Victor according to Marie : Victor is a nature lover and very fond of Portugal, his country of origin. He practices paragliding, has an adventurer’s soul, and is full of energy – an energy which he puts to good use in everything he undertakes! A character and personality which will hardly leave anyone feeling indifferent! He is open-minded and close to others, he lives his life with passion and never gives up.
Who we are ?
As the name suggests, “Tràs-os-Montes” (beyond the mountains) is a region landlocked in the middle of mountains, it was cut off from the rest of the country for a long time. Therefore, the isolation of this beautiful Barroso region can be seen as both a major advantage and a drawback.
Major key factors: its traditions, its local culture, its authentic inhabitants, such population is rarely found nowadays. But its isolation has a downside: little work available and therefore a massive migration from these rural areas in the 70s and 80s, which led to the decay of the region.
However, some people still believe that it is still possible to live there, and they fight hard to maintain their culture, traditions and local products...
And we wish to engage in this mission, albeit with our small-scale project.
How? By making this beautiful region known beyond borders, by building long-term partnerships with local farmers, craftsmen and entrepreneurs.
We have both been round the world, and we have finally decided to settle down in this little corner of paradise, as we are both very much attracted by the quietness and beautifulness of the surroundings and the authenticity of the inhabitants. We are deeply driven by the will to live a more serene life and closer to nature. Moreover, for Victor, it is also a return to his roots.
Some may say that this is a bit of a mad project. But “no life is complete without a touch of madness”, as Paulo Coelho would say.
So let’s take a step further….and let’s be mad enough to believe that this small-scale project will contribute to our personal and professional fulfilment, and to some extent, to the revival of this little piece of heaven.
If you wish to take part in these moments of great happiness in an idyllic and unusual place…do come and join us!
It is with great pleasure that we will welcome you, and share our passions and love for this wonderful region in northern Portugal that is worth knowing.
See you soon!
